To test the connection speed between your wireless
Internet connection and the Hoosier Broadband data center, please
follow the following procedure:
• Please close any
other Internet applications
• Right click on the
link below and choose "Save Target As"
or "Save Link As"
• Download a 3 megabyte
file from a server with a fast Internet connection.
• A popup will appear
asking you to begin the download
• Click "yes"
and watch the progress meter and look at the "Transfer
rate"
• You can save the
file to any location on your computer and delete
it after downloading.
This will tell you the speed you're getting in
Kbytes per second. To calculate the speed of your
Internet connection, multiple that number by 8.
For example, if you get a Tranfer rate of 200KB/sec,
multiplying it with 8 gives: 1,600 Kbps.
There are many factors which can affect the speed
of your connection when accessing a website outside
of the Hoosier Broadband network. Some of these factors are
the bandwidth on the remote server, the speed
of the server and the number of simultaneous connections.
